Month: April 2013

go enjoy yourself while I go ice my b*lls & spit up blood (OCUP #1 2013 Woodnewton)

Great to see so many awesome people before and after the race, such a good community.

Had a good time setting Stravas with Atikins on the warmup loop and busting skids and sick jumps on lap 1.

Once onto lap #2 Leandre, Mitch and I stayed at the front and we were working on breaking away. This theoretical breakaway may have included the Norco duo (McNeely and Lespy), in which case an Ontario  double/double would have greated the visiting Leandre (who is a great guy and tough guy to beat!) .

BUT THEN , BLAMO, the below Video link happened.

LINK TO OCUP 1 WOODNEWTON CRASH 2013 (Thanks to Simon)

This resulted in a party to celebrate the results . LINK TO PARTY CELEBRATION

Thanks to Kevin J. and the Odyssy Medical First Aid crew for the evacuation and first aid.

Thanks also the the Collingwood Marine hospital for a check today, I enjoyed quite timely service this morning. It looks like some strains in the shoulder that will keep me imobilized for a bit but no collarbone or concussion issues luckily.Hip and knees will heal as per usual. Face bruises will help impress females I am sure.

Super happy with all the Smart Athletes racing at Ocup #1 and Whiskey 50 2013. Many solid results and PBs and great results for first time experts/higher classed riders.  Also cool to see Momma Sue Haviland back out racing competitively. (PODIUM photo Pro women)

Sea Otter (2013 xc story photos results)

Super day at sea otter pro xct . I battled some randomized hunger games issues off the start of the race and exited the track near the back of the very deep 100 man field .

I rode my Bontrager xr-0 slicks quite well (IMHO) and paced up to finish just behind Kris Sneddon and Carl Decker who are always solid competitors in a pacing game .

5.5 min between first and 30th in the men’s race … I think that is tight racing !

Thanks to Trek Canada for support , SRAM for a shiney new Quarq , ESI for Baller white grips , Clif for optimal fuel (gels so slick for hot days and group bottle feeds) .

 [FROM PEDALMAG]
“It was a good day for the Canadians as Plaxton’s recovery from knee surgery is clearly going well, while Derek Zandstra (Scott 3Rox Racing) rolled in at 12th; Antoine Caron (Specialized Racing Canada) showed good form in 16th just ahead of perennial top 20 performer, Adam Morka (WFT Coaching) in 17th.

Jeremy Martin (Rocky Mountain Bycicles) just beat Thomas Turner (USA) Jamis at the line for 21st place, while Kris Sneddon (Kona) and Peter Glassford  (Trek) came in 28th and 29th respectively. Cameron Jette (Scott 3Rox Racing) from Toronto pulled in at 38th, with Andrew L’Esperance (Norco Factory Team) in 43rd, Cory Wallace (Kona) in 55th, Quinn Moberg (Corsa Cycles) was 66th and Evan Guthrie (Norco Factory Team) placded 72nd out of 100 finishers.

Following Sea Otter many of the XC pros will be competing at the Whisky 500 race and then at the upcoming World Cup races in Europe.”

Sea otter ( men's short track results )

Solid day On the new sea otter short track course . More open , through beer gardens and expo … Lots of crazy corners and a sand pit. I got onto last lap and had decent sensations moving up throughout the race. Some really good ‘super cross ‘ corners thrown

PEDAL SEA OTTER SHORT TRACK STORY AND RESULTS

Quoted from Pedalmag”
“There was strong Canadian presence beyond Kabush’s victory as Morka rode strong, and alone for much of the race, to finally bridge to the leaders and finish 12th, while Antoine Caron (Specialized Racing Canada) took 18th, Jeremy Martin with Rocky Mountain Bicycles was 20th, Andrew L’Esperance (Norco Factory Team) 28th, Peter Glassford (Trek Canada) 34th, Kris Sneddon (Kona) 38th, Cameron Jette (Scott 3Rox Racing) 39th, Quinn Moberg (Corsa Cycles) 41st, Evan Guthrie (Norco Factory Team) 48th, Cory Wallace (Kona) 58th, and Derek Zandstra (Scott 3Rox Racing) who did not finish.
Kabush will try to defend his last year’s uncontested victory at the longer XC course on Sunday, and if he can, he’ll pull off a rare short track and XC race duo victory – full results here” by pedalmag.com

I Pick up this little Sea Otter ( 17mile drive on a bike)

Race prep for 2013 Sea Otter going well. Nice course adjustments, great chats with people I haven’t seen and feeling pretty good. But in other news …
I Finally got out and did 17 mile drive from Monteray California to Carmel Valley and back. Some tremendous real estate, views, nature and roads. Winds were a bit high but pretty variable due to the twisty road so never that bad.
The route is actually a loop, which I did not know but quite enjoyed.
Views
Car and people watching
Manors
The Forested in-land sections of the route were actually my favorite
The route will definately be on my list of things to return to every year when I am in the area. ‘The List’ Now includes Toro Canyon Park MTB Trails (across the road from Sea Otter/Laguna Seca and also this new Coffee Shop called ”The Wild Goose” I checked out with Ms. Sin Yesterday in Carmel Valley
